Moving out again!

So its September again and that means I'm back to university for my 3rd and final year of my degree. I'm moving back to Worcester to live with some of my fellow students in an awesome bungalow right by campus.

I have mixed feelings about going back to university. Part of me is really excited to be able to see all of my friends again and i actually kind of miss going to lectures and learning new things. But then the other part of me is going to hate being away from my family for most of the time and also I'm going to have a lot of work to do this year as i have to write a 10,000 word essay for my dissertation along with my other pieces of coursework and an exam. Basically 3rd year is going to be stress central!! But at least I have a kick ass place to live!

Moving out and living in the same city as your university does give you lots of independence though and it is a great way to learn life skills that you will need when you have the money to get your own place permanently. Also living with friends rather than family is a lot of fun, especially when
you have a lot in common with the people you are living with!

Overall i guess i am looking forward to moving out. I know there is going to be a lot of challenges ahead of me as it is my final year at university but i am a mixture of nervous and excited!

London!

The other day my parents decided that they wanted to go to London to see the Natural History Museum. As my family all know that I am a massive history nerd my parents asked me to go with them and I of course said hell yes!

The museum was amazing! The building itself is so beautiful and its much bigger than I thought it would be. As soon as we got there we went straight to the dinosaur exhibit part of the museum as its the most popular and we knew it would get super busy really quickly.

It was of course really really cool and it was a good opportunity to see and learn all about the dinosaurs that used to exist. We went on to explore the rest of the museum which took about 4 hours due to the sheer size of it!

After the museum we then went to Forbidden Planet to see all of the cool comics and also the Tardis that they have there. I of course got my picture with it!

It was an amazing day I love London and it was a great chance to spend some quality time with my parents. :)

Garnier Summer Body review!

As many people who have seen me in person will know i am veryyyyy pale! I blame the Irish side and the fact that i might have been a vampire in a past life for it. Now I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with being pale but i hate getting sun burnt and i wanted to look a little tanned for the summer. I decided to try the Garnier Summer Body moisturising lotion as it has a built in gradual tan and is much safer than turning into a lobster on a sun bed!

I took the trip to my local Superdrug and brought the deep sun-kissed look one. My friend previously brought the light one, she is a similar skin tone to me, but it made no real difference for her so i decided to go for the deep one.

After the first application i noticed a slight difference but nothing major so i applied a second coat once the first was fully absorbed into my skin. I started to develop a good colour  however i did notice that i had some lighter patches on my skin.

I probably should have worn a mitt or something when i applied it to make it more even. However, despite the patches i achieved a good colour and it came off after a couple of showers. Also, another upside to this product is that it makes your skin so soft! I genuinely felt like i had baby soft skin it was so nice.

I don't think I'll be trying it again anytime soon, I'm going to stick with my natural pale look. But it was fun to give it a go and i think i will buy the regular moisturising version of the product.

Elegant Touch nail review!

Not to long ago my housemates and I joined forces to do a massive house clean and I came across a pack of Elegant Touch adhesive stick on nails. I thought I would give them a go as I have never tried any fake nails before. The ones I tried were a lilac colour but as I only have small nails, and I'm not used to fake ones, they did feel extremely long on my hands and I could barely text properly.

It said on the back of the box that they would last for a week, unfortunately mine only lasted for 2 days so it is safe to say that I was quite disappointed.

Furthermore, the application process was also a little tricky for someone who has never tried these sort of nails before. I had to place the adhesive stickers onto my nails first, which was a little fiddly.  Then I had to peel away a plastic cover to stick the nails themselves onto my original ones.

It took me overall around 20 minutes to do both of my hands, which was pretty accurate to the time it stated on the instructions so that didn't bother me too much. They looked very nice when they were on and I was pretty pleased with how they turned out in the end. But, like I mentioned previously, they only lasted 2 days which wasn't ideal. Also they didn't all fall off at once which meant my nails did look a bit odd.

All in all I would give the Elegant touch nails a 2/5. They were pretty and I liked them but they didn't last long and I struggled with the application process.

Oxford!

Not long ago i took a spontaneous day trip to Oxford with some of my awesome housemates. I've never been to Oxford before and it only cost a little bit to get there from Worcester.

We spent most of the day exploring and looking at some parts of the university, which is very impressive. Of course being a history nerd i really wanted to go to at least one museum and we ended up at the natural history museum which had lot of really interesting objects within it. My favorite was definitely the shrunken heads!

I'll be honest there were a few stuffed animals there which did freak me out a little bit but all in all it was a great experience!

Overall, our little day trip to Oxford was some good quality house bonding time and I really enjoyed it there. Hopefully I'll be able to get there again sometime soon.

End of 2nd year

So the exam period is over and I've now completed my second year at university!! :)

Second year was definitely a lot tougher than first year and the difference in difficulty became apparent quite early on! Like many universities in the UK the first year of my degree doesn't count towards my final grade you just have to pass to get into your second year. Therefore, i put a lot more effort into this year and my grades did improve.

The second year of university was also a lot more stressful than the first due to more assignments and more deadlines which creates added pressure. But i managed to get through it, despite having a few difficult moments, and I'm so proud of myself for completing another year at university! :)

Besides the uni work itself i got to spend my second year with some awesome people and made some great new friends this year aswell. I would describe my uni experience so far as difficult at times but so worth it. I've met some great people so far and i know my degree will get me to where i want to go.

Birthday Celebrations!

Following on from my birthday haul blog post I thought I would do one about my birthday celebrations because they were so awesome and probably the best I've had to date!

I always spend my actual birthday, which was a Sunday, with my family so this year my boyfriend and I drove back to my homeland of Birmingham to spend the day with my loved ones. We went for a gorgeous meal and I had the most heavenly chocolate brownie I've had in my life! The rest of the day was spent getting very competitive on my Nintendo Wii and watching loads of random stuff on Netflix!

The following day I headed back to my uni house in Worcester where the drinking commenced! It involved a lot of Tequila, a caterpillar birthday cake, light up shot glasses and a Mexican hat for some reason. It's safe to say I drank a fair bit but I had such a good time and I'm super grateful to all my friends that managed to make it!

Birthday Haul

It was my birthday on the 31st May and i finally reached the 2 decade mark. I know that i am still quite young but for some reason i freaked out so much when i realised i was going to be 20! Even though a few days on nothing at all is different.

I wasn't expecting much but i got some amazing presents from friends and family so thought i would share a few in a blog post :)

My boyfriend got me these lovely earrings, I'm pretty sure he didn't pick them out but i still love them all the same :) They are silver with a cute little gem in the middle.

He also got me a scarf. Not something i would usually go for as I'm not normally too girly in what i wear but i still like it. Its a light blue colour, which my camera doesn't really show, and has daisies on it.

I recently broke my beloved yellow sunglasses from Topshop so my parents got me these awesome new red ones from River Island. The red parts are made of a rubber material so they wont overheat and burn my face like metal ones would.

I also got an Avengers age of Ultron poster off my friend along with a massive birthday badge (which i was forced to wear on my birthday night out) and as always some cheeky alcohol.

I did get some others but these are just the ones i have decided to include in this post. I am by no means bragging. I had an awesome 20th birthday and i am so grateful for all of the presents that i got so thankyou to everyone who gave me one! :)

Exam period!

So after having a very very veryyyyy long break from blogging i have started to get back into the swing of things. The reason i was away for so long was down to university work and a lot of EXAM STRESS!!

Exams are probably one of the hardest parts of university. They are much more intense than the exams that you have to do in high school and sometimes require a lot of research and preparation. It is for this reason that the word exam strikes fear into many students hearts.

I dont normally cope well with stress and go into what i like to call 'meltdown mode'. However, i did find during my most recent exam period that there are some things that make it less stressful and a bit of a smoother ride.

 1) Make sure you eat properly!....Food makes a lot of people happy but it also makes your brain work better so its good to make sure you get some healthy 3 meals a day into you.

 2) Drink lots of water!....Yes you will probably need to pee a lot but keeping hydrated stops you from getting some unwanted headaches when you have a lot of revision to get through.

3) Have regular breaks!....Some studies have shown that we actually stop absorbing our revision after about an hour so its good to have about a 15 min break in between each hour.

 4) Spend time with your friends and family!....Yes you probably have a lot of revising to do but this doesn't mean that you should cut yourself off completely from everyone that cares about you. Making time for your loved ones helps you to relax more and de-stress for a bit.

So yes exams are stressful but the most important thing to do is to HAVE REGULAR BREAKS and also do not push yourself too hard. All you can do is your best.

The dreaded hangover!

So being a student i have had my fair share of unfortunate hangovers! This is completely normal for many students, especially first years, as going to clubs is a great way to socialize and meet new people. Of course not everyone gets drunk when they go out and you don't have to! But for those who do here are some ways that i try and cope with the morning after!

Tip 1:
Drink lots and lots and lots of water!!!
A pint of water is advised as soon as you get back home. One of the main reasons for a hangover is that alcohol dehydrates you. It's important to get yourself re-hydrated to get rid of that headache and dizzy feeling!!

Tip 2:
Eat food such as chips or a burger before you go to sleep.
This doesn't work for everyone, but i find that it stops me feeling so sick when i wake up.

Tip 3:
Eat fruit, such as oranges, or anything rich in vitamin C.
This will further help with dehydration and also make you feel generally less ill and yucky.

Tip 4:
Stay in bed and watch films (such as Harry Potter because that's awesome).
Not only will some bed rest do you good but it's a great distraction from the fact that you feel pretty rubbish.

All in all its best not to over do it on the drinking front for the sake of your organs and general well being but, for those times that you do go overboard, these are some things that work for me. The main thing to remember is that as long as you have good people around you, you'll have a good time regardless. But they can also be there to share your pain of the dreaded hangover!
